eco printing
‘I’VE ALWAYS LOVED MAKING SPECIAL GARMENTS TO EMPOWER OTHERS AND BRING NATURE TO PEOPLE THROUGH ATTIRE.’
The flowering of eucalyptus depends on the seasons and the weather and each species flowers at a different time of the year or years. I planted a Western Australian flowering gum – even though I am surrounded by bushland. I planted it thirty five years ago. It had never flowered and became a huge tree. Twelve months ago it flowered, so I thought how can I use the flowers and the leaves in my printing? However the canopy was so high that I couldn’t reach them. Then a large flock of red and blue crimson rosellas arrived and they nipped off some of the flowers and the leaves which fell to the ground and I was able to use them for the print on the Juliette dress, That’s how rare a print like that is.
its all about slow fashion
Slow Fashion brings to the wearer a connection with the world of nature and people are a part of the nature, so it brings us to our essence.
“I feel the garments are a reflection of my relationship with this land but they also take on a unique life of their own because they carry the message of the eco environment in the print and tell that story.”
“Something I think is really interesting is the way that the plant material imparts it’s energy to the fabric and makes the print, so for me it’s important that the technique is eco friendly using no chemicals and I prefer to use windfalls, which brings another element to the work.”
