Pritchard is known for her intricate textile artworks that are inspired by the natural beauty of her surroundings.
“Sewing and making clothes and articles from fibre, woven or felted, was a practice I had from early childhood when my mother stated that if I could thread the sewing machine needle myself then I could stay up as late as I pleased.”
This proved to be my greatest incentive and what was initially an excuse for late nights became a love for making.
This love graduated to felting, spinning, weaving natural fleece as well as silk and ultimately natural dyeing and eco printing techniques on protein and cellulose fibres.
In 2021, I embarked on an online course with Clarissa Callesen working with upcycled fibre and fabric, creating sculpture pieces.
With this extended knowledge and further development of my own skills I began a series of Fibre Sculptures. I am still exploring the versatility and potential of this medium.

“Everything We Touch”.
The inspiration behind her collection, which Barbara exhibited in July 2022, came from a visually impaired person.
“While installing my last exhibition, Burnt Offerings, at Gallery 294 a visually impaired customer came in and I suggested to her that she touch the unframed artwork in that exhibition,” Barbara said.
“I found her experience very moving and resolved to produce a body of work that would at least be partly available to touch.
“This collection of soft sculptural works was informed by that meeting. My dedication to repurposed textiles which are transformed into artworks is evident in this exhibition and all materials used have had a previous life as loved clothing or belongings.”
